
Why Most Bathroom Heaters Fail (And How We Fixed Ours)
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, random splashes of water, and those wild temperature swings that make everything damp. If you just throw a standard infrared lamp in there, the moisture will chew through the electrical contacts in no time. Before you know it, the tube burns out and you’re back to shivering in a cold room.
Dealing with the Steam and Splashes
We didn’t want to build something that would die in six months. So, we focused heavily on the seals. We used a sealed chassis and reinforced gaskets to make sure water stays on the outside and away from the wiring. It’s simple, but it works. Then there’s the fog. You know that annoying blur on the mirror? That happens when warm, wet air hits a cold surface. To fight this, we use short-wave infrared. Instead of trying to heat up all the air in the room—which just creates more steam—these heaters warmyouand the objects around you directly. It keeps the dew point lower, which means your mirror actually stays clear.
The Little Details That Matter
If you live in an area with hard water, you know that white, crusty lime buildup that gets on everything. When that stuff settles on a heating element, it creates “hot spots.” The glass gets stressed, it cracks, and the heater is toast. To stop that, we used a specialized coating on the quartz glass to keep the minerals from sticking. We also swapped out the standard PVC wiring for high-temp silicone leads. PVC is great for a lot of things, but it tends to crack or melt when it’s constantly heating up and cooling down. Silicone just handles the stress better.
One Quick Tip for Installation
Here is the catch: those protective seals are great for keeping water out, but they also trap heat inside the housing. Because of that, you can’t just smash the unit flush against a solid wall. You need to leave a little breathing room with the mounting bracket so air can move behind it. If you don’t, the internal thermostat will kick in and shut the unit off just to keep it from overheating. Give it some space, and it’ll run perfectly.
